The fall of Minoan civilization corresponds to the emergence of Mycenaean civilization that imposed its supremacy on the Aegean Sea.

Architecture. In opposition to Minoan civilization which gave pride of place to open spaces and an art marked with a certain joie de vivre, Mycenaean art is characterized by its massive, military aspect. Imposing fortified citadels were raised and bear witness to the priority their builders gave to defense. The stonework is Cyclopean; this type of masonry is built with huge limestone boulders roughly fitted together with minimal clearance between adjacent stones and with no use of mortar. The boulders are typically unworked, but are sometimes roughly worked with a hammer, and the gaps between boulders are often filled in with smaller hunks of limestone. The smaller palaces are structured around a megaron, that is a large central hall.

Goldsmithing. The period's objects are often rudimentary. The metal masks set on the faces of the deceased are mong the most remarkable works. A great many jewels are also found in the tombs of women.

Ah, but I research these study notes as I work my way forward from Primitive Greek art - you're just seeing me in the process of trying to ACCUMULATE cultural knowledge!

Nah, Dennis are write - you is erudite.

You think I really is errudite? Yours in perdition.

Roger - great input - and in such a poetic manner - rhyming "write" and "erudite".

And your choice of "erudite" is so interesting - as a cultured and literary sort you are well aware that it obviously comes from "err" (note that Deborah's spelling is actually closer to the original) plus "you" plus "said (in French)" so it really means "what you said is wrong" . Of course, as you well know, over time this originally latinate phrase was applied so often to academic types that it eventually became assimilated into the King's or Queen's English to refer to a learned person.
